Bad Reality TV = Bad Grammar??

While quietly grading papers this Sunday and flicking through TV channels, I came upon the stellar television show "Beauty and the Geek." It was so horrifying -- much like a train wreck -- that I had to keep it on. At the end of the show, these words were projected across the screen:

"Portions of this program not effecting the outcome have been edited out."

I can only assume that the real title of the show is "Beauty, the Geek, and People Who Don't Bother to Use Spell Check."

Effect ----> noun: remember the effect
Affect ----> verb

I was struck by this as well and found this post as a result. The sentence is not grammatically incorrect however. The verb 'to effect' means to bring into existence. The usage here is just a little strange!
